EDGE AIP

Edge AIP is the hardware platform (from May 2024: TRB140 gateway; until April 2024: MC100 terminal), including an Edge AIP application for the AIP software product, used for sending SMS and email. In AIP, the modem (Edge AIP) is configured as the transmission medium.

Quick Guide

General Information

Edge AIP provides easy access to internet and SMS services via the mobile network. For the start-up, you need a SIM card from a mobile network provider that is activated for packet services (2G, 3G, 4G) and a sufficiently stable signal.

Prerequisites

Please consult your IT department beforehand regarding the use of the Edge AIP device in terms of security criteria and internet access within your network. Use a mobile phone to check whether your SIM card can send SMS and establish an internet connection for email services.

Please follow the instructions step-by-step and configure the settings for the SIM card. An incorrect PIN may lock the SIM card. Have the SUPER PIN/PUK of your SIM card ready for unlocking if needed.

Initial Start-up

1. ANTENNA
Attach the included antenna to the “Mobile” port of the TRB140 Gateway. Check whether there is sufficient network coverage from your mobile provider at the location. Ensure that there is also sufficient reception at the final installation site (e.g., plant, basement, server room).

2. INSERTING THE SIM CARD
To insert the SIM card, first remove the cover. Then insert your SIM card as shown in the illustration below. Finally, reattach the cover.

3. POWER SUPPLY
The Edge AIP modem operates with a supply voltage of 10–30V DC.

Connect the included external DC power adapter with an output voltage of 9.0V DC to the “POWER” socket.

Plug the power adapter into the power supply. Several green “Power” LEDs will light up or blink. After a short initialization phase (approx. 40 seconds), the device is ready for operation.

4. PREPARING THE PC
Assign the computer that will configure the Edge AIP modem an IP address in the range of 192.168.2.2 – 192.168.2.254.

Connect the Edge AIP modem to the PC via Ethernet (LAN).

Perform a PING to the IP address 192.168.2.1 of the Edge AIP device. If the PING is successful, open a modern browser on your PC.

5. EDGE AIP USER INTERFACE
The web interface of Edge AIP is used to configure the application and test the respective settings so that the modem can be used as a transmission medium in AIP.

Enter the following URL in your browser:
https://192.168.2.1:8081

Confirm the browser’s security warning and click “Advanced” to proceed.

The login credentials are printed on the back of the device. Use the username and password to access the Edge AIP interface or device configuration.

6. SETTING UP THE PIN
Enter the PIN of your SIM card under “Configuration” and save the settings. Check the PIN status and signal quality under “Status”.

7. SMS TEST MESSAGE
Send a test SMS message. Only after successful transmission should you proceed with the configuration of the sending media in the AIP Configurator.
